We consider ourselves very lucky to call Los Angeles our home. Whether it’s your first time in LA or you know your way around, we hope you get some extra time to soak in what makes this city special to us, and leave with a few more core memories.
There are two airports we recommend flying in and out of- LAX or Burbank (Bob Hope). LAX typically offers more flight options and lower fares, but it also comes with more traffic. Burbank is smaller, less chaotic, and a great option for select domestic routes.
In order to be close to our venue, we recommend staying in Malibu, Oxnard, Thousand Oaks, Santa Monica, or Calabasas areas. There are plenty of great hotels and Airbnb's all around. Some of our favorites are: Hotel June (multiple locations), Cambria Hotel in Calabasas, Le Petit Pali in Brentwood, Santa Monica Proper Hotel, Palihouse in Santa Monica, Westlake Village Inn, or the Courtyard Marriott in Sherman Oaks.
We strongly recommend renting a car. While rideshares like Uber and Lyft work well in most parts of Los Angeles, they’re pretty limited near our venue in north Malibu. Having a rental car will make getting around much easier and more reliable, especially for getting to and from the wedding.
Unfortunately… yes. Give yourself plenty of extra time when driving anywhere, especially during rush hour. Leave early, bring snacks, and trust Google Maps or Waze like your life depends on it.
Let's just say we are blessed in the food department here in LA. Truly something for everybody, and some of the best food in the country. A few crowd favorites that come to mind are Heavy Handed, Great White, Prince St. Pizza, Jon & Vinny's, Potato Chips Deli, Tatsu Ramen, Ggiata, Pizzana, Sharky's, Ekkamai Thai, Malibu Farm, Taverna Tony, Sweetgreen, Zinque, Ubatuba Acai, Rutt's Hawaiian Cafe, Bread Head, Burger She Wrote, Eggslut, Erewhon, Van Leeuwen's Ice Cream, and Pink's Hot Dogs. Please feel free to reach out to us for more recommendations!
There’s no shortage of ways to spend your time here. A few Dougie & Jamie classics: stroll along the Venice Canals, grab pizza and watch the sunset at El Matador Beach, hike to the Griffith Observatory, shop (or people-watch) on Melrose or The Grove, or catch a view of the city from the Getty (it's free!). Some of our favorite neighborhoods are Studio City, Brentwood, Culver City, Fairfax, and Abbot Kinney. For the best experience, avoid places like Downtown LA and Hollywood!
